The "Godfather" author was born on this day in 1920. He died in 1999 at the age of 79 in his home in Bay Shore, New York, about twenty miles from Gambino's former home.

This was a great man--loved his Mama, took care of the family, and even wrote a TOTALLY fictionally story about a fictional group. The best line he ever wrote: Leave the gun--take the cannoli.
