Austin - Hot on the heels of an increased cigarette tax imposed as an effort to stop smoking, Texas officials announced a 112% tax increase on all food in reaction to findings that Texas has one of the nation's top obsesity ratings. Obesity leads to heart disease and is the number 2 cause of death after smoking.State officials are hoping that increased food prices will prevent people from eating too much and therefore help lower the obesity rate.
