NEW BIKINI BAR TOO CLOSE TO SCHOOL?

Bikinis Sports Bar & Grill is scheduled to open after Memorial Day at the building that once housed a former Applebee's on Fredericksburg Road.
Concerned parents and parishioners of the San Antonio Preparatory Academy met with the restaurant owner to ask questions about the eatery, and in some cases, give him a piece of their mind.
"Why this location? Why here, so close to a school?" a woman asked.
"I don't want my child going to school next to a business that has women that are half-dressed, men under the influence coming out," said Deanee Mejia, a parent.
"The men will be going to your place to lust after the girls and get drunk," a woman said.
Doug Guller, the restaurant owner, said that the residents' concerns were fair and he hopes that his answers to their questions "alleviated some of their concerns."
Guller also said he wanted to reassure residents that his establishment is not a sexually-oriented business.
"We're a restaurant. We're a sports bar and grill," he said.
There was some discussion at the meeting about erecting a fence between the parking lot of the business and the school.

FAREWELL FUNNY MAN.....

We usually don't do "sad" but it's been building up since Bea Arthur passed away last week. Stella and I were so upset we suffered in silence over a cheesecake. But this morning we read of Dom DeLuise's passing and had to give some props. Every time we think of him doing "The French Mistake" from Blazing Saddles we crack the hell up. It's terrible letting go of all these comic legends, but death always gets the last damn laugh.

The television star told the press "Tony and I will be moving to France after Desperate Housewives. Actually after his basketball career." (Which will end first, we wonder?)

Ah, yes, and after they settle into that 7 million dollar maison they've been building up in Anaqua Springs Ranch. It doesn't look like the big move will be any time soon. Besides, there's no Las Palapas in Paris!

Jazz pianist and singer Shirley Horn was born today in 1934. Sadly, this legendary performer left us in 2005. Often overlooked, many serious jazz fans place Horn in the company of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan.
