SHIRLEY STOLLER


Actress Shirley Stoller was born on this day in 1929. Best known for her uncanny portrayals of villains in such films as The Honeymoon Killers and Seven Beauties, Stoller later took a comic turn as Mrs. Steve in Pee Wee's Playhouse. Stoller passed away in 1999.

TIMI YURO


A pioneer of "Blue Eyed Soul", Timi Yuro passed away on this day in 2004. She lost her battle with throat cancer at the age of 63. When her huge hit "Hurt" debuted in 1961, many listeners assumed that Yuro was black.

GAY JESUS COMES TO TEXAS!


Security will be increased at Tarleton State University when a play in which Jesus is portrayed as gay will be presented on Saturday. The production called "Corpus Christi" is being directed by student John Jordan Otte, who says he wants to offer a play that portrays tolerance and unconditional love. Critics say the play is blasphemous. School police Chief Justin Williams says university officers will be assisted with security by police in Stephenville, a city of 17,000 located 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio has said the play will be allowed because the school is committed to protecting and preserving freedom of thought, speech and expression.The Terrence McNally play premiered in New York in 1998. MAY BRITT


The Swedish actress and one time wife of Sammy Davis Jr. was born on this day in 1936. She met Sammy Davis, Jr. in 1959. They began dating, and, after a brief engagement, were married on November 13, 1960. Their wedding caused controversy. A rumor or myth, John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy told Frank Sinatra to tell Davis not to marry May until after the 1960 Presidential Election. At that time interracial marriage was forbidden by law in 31 U.S. states, and only in 1967 were those laws abolished by the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to the wedding, Britt converted to Judaism Once married, Britt left the movies.They divorced in 1968 after Davis reportedly had an affair with dancer Lola Falana. After the divorce, Britt resumed working with sporadic TV guest appearances, the last in 1988. Since then she has been retired and mainly involved in painting. She currently resides in California with her third husband, Lennart Ringquist.

Aretha's older sister Erma was born on this day in 1938. Her biggest hit, Piece Of My Heart, was later covered by Janis Joplin. Franklin retired from the music biz in the 1970's and worked as a fundraiser for the charity Boysville. She died of lung cancer in 2002 at the age of 64.
